Overview
The Burning Crusade continues a fan-favourite mechanic; world bosses. These are powerful enemies located out in the open world, which drop powerful loot, on par with some of the most powerful raid items available in the early phases.
TBC features 2 world bosses: Doom Lord Kazzak and Doomwalker. Compared to Classic’s 6, that isn’t as many, but their loot is very powerful nonetheless. As a result, players will flock to their location when they spawn, making them exceedingly rare to encounter, as they’re usually long dead by the time you get there, and have a long respawn timer.
While their loot is not as powerful as loot from newer phases, Phase 4 made world boss loot bind on equip. As a result, they are now highly valuable for selling to other players or equipping alts.
Doomwalker
Doomwalker is a raid boss in the open world located in Shadowmoon Valley. The Doomwalker was created in Legion Hold and sent by Kil’jaeden to break down the gates of Illidan’s Black Temple.
Location
Doomwalker is located at ground level in the center of the two terraces in front of the Black Temple.
Strategy
This is a brief summary on how to defeat Doomwalker. For a more in-depth guide, please check out our Doomwalker Strategy Guide.
- Be careful of opposite faction groups trying to attack you on PvP servers — consider equipping some PvP gear
- Make sure you’re always more than 10 yards away from other players to avoid chaining Lightning Wrath
- Avoid summoning “guardian” type pets such as Fire Elemental Totem & Force of Nature, as Lightning Wrath chain to them too
- Use Master Healthstone & cooldowns like Divine Shield, Ice Block etc to survive Earthquake if your healers are struggling
- Players who die while engaged in combat with Doomwalker will get the Mark of Death debuff for 15 minutes
- Doomwalker will insta-kill players who are marked for death with his Aura of Death, so death is “parament” here in a sense
- Form 2 melee groups, one on each side of Doomwalker, with more than 10 yards distance between one another, due to Lightning Wrath
- Kill adds that spawn nearby, but be careful of your positioning if you move out to kill them
- Hunters: Rotate your Misdirection to help out your tanks; use 1 after each cast of Overrun
- Ranged DPS will be primarily responsible for dealing with any adds that spawn nearby
- Doomwalker hits hard, and will occasionally change target due to Overrun; pay attention and keep your tanks alive!
- Earthquake will stun the raid and deal about 8k damage to everyone. Make sure the raid is topped off before it goes out
- Holy Priests can bypass the “permadeath” aspect of this fight by using Spirit of Redemption to heal for 15 seconds between deaths
- Doomwalker hits hard — it is recommended that you use mitigation gear here
- Doomwalker is tauntable, so if one of the tank goes down, another can tan take his place — taunt quickly before DPS players die
- Doomwalker will frequently cast Overrun, resetting the threat table and going after a random player
- You must quickly taunt him and re-position him after Overrun, else people will die
- Protection Paladins: You have a significantly easier time dealing with Overrun, thanks to your ranged taunt

Doom Lord Kazzak
Doom Lord Kazzak is a raid boss in the open world located in Hellfire Peninsula. Players may remember Kazzak as a world boss from the Classic version of the game, located in the Tainted Scar within the Blasted Lands. It turns out he was promoted to Doom Lord after utilizing a sacred relic to re-open the Dark Portal.
Location
Doom Lord Kazzak can be found on the north-eastern side of the Throne of Kil’Jaeden, a sub-zone on the north-eastern side of Hellfire Peninsula. Players will need a flying mount in order to enter the Throne of Kil’Jaeden, or alternatively get summoned there.
Strategy
This is a brief summary on how to defeat Doom Lord Kazzak. For a more in-depth guide, please check out our Doom Lord Kazzak Strategy Guide.
- Everyone in the Raid will need a flying mount in order to get to the Throne of Kil’jaeden area of Hellfire Peninsula and fight Kazzak.
- As Doom Lord Kazzak is a world boss, you will need to be part of a coordinated group that gets to the boss soon after he spawns, as there will be other groups looking to be the ones who get his spoils. This may also mean that on PvP servers you may need to beat out the opposite faction as well as other groups.
- This fight is best approached with full consumables and buffs, as ideally the encounter only lasts about a minute.
- All members of the raid with mana need to be aware of whether or not they are targeted with Mark of Kazzak, and if they are, to run away from the raid to avoid dealing AoE damage to your raid members.
- This fight is nothing short of a DPS race. Use all of your cooldowns to maximize your damage output to try and keep the fight under a minute.
- Be sure to remain behind the boss to avoid taking damage from Cleave.
- Retribution Paladins, Enhancement Shamans: Unlike other melee, you may be targeted by Mark of Kazzak, so be prepared to run away from the rest of the group quickly.
- Rogues should prepare to use Cloak of Shadows when the Enrage comes around at 54 seconds.
- This fight is nothing short of a DPS race. Use all of your cooldowns to maximize your damage output to try and keep the fight under a minute.
- Mages can use Ice Block to drop the Mark of Kazzak debuff.
- Healers need to be sure to dispel Twisted Reflection right away to avoid Doom Lord Kazzak healing significantly.
- Holy Paladins will want to be prepared to use Divine Shield at the Enrage point to avoid damage from the back to back Shadow Bolt Volleys, and continue focussing their healing on the tank.
- Priests need to be using Mass Dispel to remove the effects of Twisted Reflection.
- Dispel Thunderclap from the Tank to help increase threat generation. Melee will be grateful of Mass Dispel, which Priests will already be casting on the Melee group.
- There will without a doubt be heavy raid damage throughout the encounter, so prepare healing assignments to help prevent overhealing.
- Whenever a member of the raid dies, Doom Lord Kazzak gains 70k health via Capture Soul. Read that again. You will need to be consistently healing through this sprint of a fight to ensure that Kazzak does not gain too much health from a raid member’s perish.
- The main tank need only to treat this as a tank and spank style fight, keeping Doom Lord Kazzak positioned in the center of his platform and facing away from the remainder of the raid.
- Any off tanks should be building threat while standing with the melee group, behind the boss, because the frontal Cleave does not split damage between targets.
- Save Shield Wall for the Enrage at 54 seconds into the encounter.
