There was a lot of confusion after last night’s announcement by Blizzard of tier 5 content nerfs. Specifically, Kaivax said:

Please be reminded that all bosses in Serpentshrine Cavern and The Eye will be adjusted to their final “nerfed” state with the weekly reset in each region next week.

Kaivax

Many players pointed out that it would be difficult to be reminded of something they were not aware of, as the previously announced round of nerfs was limited to Morogrim Tidewalker, Lady Vashj and Kael’thas Sunstrider. There was no mention of all bosses being nerfed, never mind to their final nerfed state, which is highly ambiguous.

Players eager to find out what Kaivax’s somewhat cryptic message meant took to the PTR and ran the content, and their findings are fairly shocking, as the content was indeed nerfed across the board, by a substantial amount.

In specific, the nerfs are as follows:

Serpentshrine Cavern

  • Trash monsters: Health reduced by ~40% on average
  • Hydross the Unstable: Health reduced by 10% (3.79 mil → 3.41 mil)
  • Leotheras the Blind: Health reduced by 17% (4.55 mil → 3.79 mil)
  • Lady Vashj: Health reduced by 20% (6.07 mil → 4.85 mil)

Tempest Keep: The Eye

  • Trash monsters: Health reduced by 30 to 50%
  • Al’ar: Health reduced by 11% (3.41 mil → 3.03 mil)
  • High Astromancer Solarian: Health reduced by 33% (4.55 mil → 3.03 mil)
  • Kael’thas Sunstrider: Health reduced by 40% (6.07 mil → 3.64 mil). Health of Advisors reduced by 64%

These nerfs are on top of the previously announced nerfs and also come with the removal of attunements to those raids. A lot of the bosses and NPCs had their damage reduced as well, but those values are not yet documented. This makes Blizzard’s intent behind them fairly clear: they want as many players as possible to clear these raids in anticipation of the release of phase 3 / tier 6 content, which just became available for testing on the PTR with no announcement from Blizzard.

Regardless, players were stumped by the sheer size of these nerfs. There is some speculation that these nerfs might be accidental, as there was no previous communication about them. Predictably, there are a lot of strong such feelings over the nerfs on both the official forums and Reddit, with players typically expressing frustration of the miscommunication. It will be interesting to see how this situation develops.

What are your thoughts on this topic? Are you happy with these nerfs or do you think they are too harsh? Will it give your guild a chance to clear these raids and get attuned to the Black Temple & Mount Hyjal raids? Let us know in the comments below!

i dont get why they’re nerfing these raids with a montth left of phase 2. why does everyone have to be on the same tier. it’s the same bullshit that has happened on retail, everyone has to be on the same content.

You must have brain damage, one month isn’t going to get all 25 raid members all the loot they need. Imagine trying to gatekeep recycled content.

You must have brain damage, who cares? Imagine people being on different tiers of content. hard to wrap your thick skull around? guilds can be on different stages of progression. Just like it was back then. The fact is they’re changing their initial vision of tbc and nerfing content before phases end.

Because $$$
Lets say 50% of players have completed all phase 2 content, and don’t want any nerfs. These players will play phase 3 content regardless of phase 2 nerfs. The other 50% of players who are struggling with Vashj/KT/etc cannot participate in the P3 raids (due to attunements). Nerfing phase 2 content is a business decision, and the harsher the better. I’m not saying I agree with the nerfs, but Blizzard is not in the business of gatekeeping content.

I was under the impression that everything on the ptr was for phase 3, since thats what the ptr is for, phase 3. The nerfs tomorrow are just the previously months mentioned nerfs on kt, vashj and morogrim. This cant be true really

ridiculous how they keep changing their plans. I don’t get why everything is nerfed. That’s supposed to happen after phase 2 is done. Really disappointed in Blizzard. All that should have been nerfed was kt and vashj if anything at all. But maybe that’s just me being a cutting edge mythic raider for the last 6 years. I’m just better than most.
