Deadly Strike of the Hydra is a new Epic Two-Handed Sword added in Season of Discovery. This sword is a reworked version of the original Strike of the Hydra available in the Blackfathom Deeps 5-man dungeon.
This sword is incredibly strong, having the highest DPS out of any melee weapon available in Phase 1, beating second place by over 5 DPS. This makes this weapon the clear Best in Slot for anyone looking to swing their melee weapon, including Warriors, Paladins, and even some Hunters.
The sword also has a unique proc, dealing 20 Nature damage every 3 seconds and lowering the targets armor by 150 for 15 seconds. The Nature damage is entirely negligible, unlikely to even account for 1% of your overall damage during a raid, but the armor reduction will increase all the damage not only you, but every Physical DPS in your raid does, making it a very strong debuff.
This weapon is dropped by Aku’mai, the final boss of the overhauled Blackfathom Deeps raid. While the drop rate is fairly low, the raid resets every 3 days, making the chances of obtaining it significantly higher.
If you do get your hands on this weapon, your best choice of enchant during Phase 1 will be Enchant 2H Weapon – Lesser Impact, giving you an additional 3 damage to each of your weapon swings. Unfortunately, glows from enchants are not visible on Deadly Strike of the Hydra as the weapon has its own effect, having poison dripping from the tip of the weapon.
